This is a professional engineering staff position that performs design review duties within the Engineering-Administration Division of the Public Works department. These engineering duties are concentrated in the areas of Site Development Plan Review, Stormwater Management and Utility Plan review. This position reports directly to the City Engineer and is responsible for the land disturbance permitting process. Furthermore, this position provides design for city projects as needed using CAD generated construction drawings.

These engineering duties are concentrated in the areas of Site Development Plan Review, Stormwater Management and Utility Plan review. Furthermore, this position provides design for city projects as needed using CAD generated construction drawings.
- Performs plan review for all private developments within the city to include engineering design requirements for driveway configurations, curbs, roadways, sight distances, storm water management systems, hydrology, and erosion control plans to assure conformance to NPDES regulations and city ordinances. Related activities include:
- Conducts pre-design development conferences with developers, contractors, architects and property owners to discuss plan requirements to comply with applicable city ordinances and related regulations. Explains and interprets the regulation requirements related to the proposed plan covering construction items such as stormwater management, flood plain control, street configuration, pavement requirements and erosion and sedimentation control.
- Coordinates projects with the Planning, Zoning, Fire, Water and Sewer Departments as well as other outside agencies on proposed development plans.
- Coordinates with assigned development project managers as directed by the City Engineer.
- Informs the Field Engineer/Erosion Control Inspector of proposed projects and answers inspector questions related to the construction of the project.
- Assists the Stormwater Engineer in managing the Erosion and Sediment Control Program.
- Ensures plan review meets the requirements to maintain Local Issuing Authority status.
- Assist in maintaining records to obtain Sediment Control Plan Review Authority status.
- Research, investigate, and evaluate citizen requests regarding engineering related issues.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Assist the Stormwater Engineer as necessary to complete the annual MS4 Report.
- Creates construction documents for city related projects through the utilization of CAD software as assigned by the City Engineer.
- Generates site, transportation, and hydraulic engineering models utilizing CAD software.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the City Engineer.
- Remains current with Level IB and Level II certifications under the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act requirements.
- Provides engineering assistance to the City Engineer & other staff with the enforcement of the erosion and sediment control, storm water detention, and stream buffers on all development.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related field with a minimum of two years related civil engineering experience. Trainees are not required to have prior experience.
- E.I.T. Certification is preferred.
- Must attain certification as Erosion Control Level IB Inspector and a Level II Plan Reviewer or Level II Certified Design Professional within work test period.
- Knowledge of Civil Engineering Design and Practice particularly in the fields of hydrology, site design, water resources, and transportation.
- Reading and understanding engineering plans and maps.
- Knowledge and skill using MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and CAD Software.
- Ability to learn and administer city codes and ordinances, including development codes such as flood plain, sediment and erosion control, storm water detention.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations, which are applicable and enforceable in the City of Marietta.
- Ability to perform work from written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to learn city and department policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing including dealing with citizen complaints and making various presentations.
