This position is within the Information Technology Department and reports directly to the Network Services Manager. Position maintains Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems and physical network.  Provides technical support for the City/BLW including, perform move, add and changes to IP telephones, provide PC and laptop support in a wired and wireless environment.  This position will also work with the Security Administrator to develop and implement security initiatives throughout the City of Marietta/BLW networks.  Position will also support the Microsoft-based PC operating system and hardware.  Provides ServiceDesk support to City/BLW PC users.  Troubleshoots, repairs and works with factory technical support personnel as needed to identify and resolve hardware or software problems.  Enforces hardware, software, and security standards established by the IT Department.

 
  • Installs, configures and maintains Cisco Data/Voice telecommunications equipment and software throughout the enterprise; provides technical support for all Data/Voice communications.
  • Installs, configures, troubleshoots LAN and WAN networks, and related assemblies with Fiber optics and copper wiring.
  • Establishes and maintains basic LAN/WAN operations, including assembly of network hardware, and provides guidance and assistance to technical support staff.
  • Performs LAN/WAN troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common problems; provides end users with technical support.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation for telecommunications configurations and cabling layouts; configures Cisco Call Manger, Cisco Unified Messaging, Cisco Call Center, Catalyst switches, Firewall, Wireless controllers.
  • Assists management and other systems administration staff in developing policies and procedures, e.g., security access and control, database administration.
  • Assists in the implementation of network architectures, including voice communications, LAN/WANs, LAN internet-working and connections with the WAN environment.
  • Provide evidence as requested, to support audit and compliance initiatives. Assist Security Administrator with evaluation and pilot deployments of new network security products and features.
  • Work with the Security Administrator to develop and maintain security design and operations documentation.
  • Act in concert with the Security Administrator to analyze results of security incidents and make recommendations for remediation to Network Services Manager. Provide support to IT to solve and correct technical challenges related to implementation of security solutions.
  • Responsible for monitoring service levels of hardware / software according to specifications.
  • Collects, analyzes and manages performance and capacity data for identifying trends to prevent system disruptions and downtime.
  • Determines necessary changes to hardware and/or software resources to enhance overall system operations.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the field for application to functional areas of responsibility.
  • Assists in inventorying and mapping network equipment.
  • Provides 24-hour coverage of critical situations when needed.
  • Functions as an integral part of the IT ServiceDesk support function; receives and acts upon Help Desk items in a timely fashion, reporting actions taken.
  • Performs after hours on-call weekly support in the regular rotation as a part of the IT support desk.
  • Provide enterprise support for WebEx and WebEx clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Network Services Manager

Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in computer information systems or closely related field and 3 years progressively responsible systems administration work or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have, or obtain, N+ within working test period and obtain CCNA certification within one year of hire.
  • Preferred certifications include: CISSP, CISA
  • Strong security and remote network connectivity background with knowledge of and utilizing routers, switches, firewalls, VPN’s and other security and networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of LAN and WAN technology, with expertise in Ethernet.
  • Working knowledge of IP telephone systems and computer programs, i.e., Data Base, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, AS/400 Client Access, and anti-virus software.
  • Knowledge of the latest versions of MS Windows software.
  • Knowledge of market trends and directions in the industry.
  • Knowledge of software copyright laws.
  • Ability to install and test system hardware.
  • Ability to define impact of changes and modifications and the ability to associate cause and effect for actual problem resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with users and other IT employees.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret various computer manuals.
  • Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Must be flexible in working nights and weekends as needed.
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license and a satisfactory seven-year driving history with no DUI’s in the last 5 years. 
  • Drug Screen and background check required at time of hire.
  • Knowledge and experience with the ability to support the SCADA network (hardware and software) is a plus
