The PAL After School Program Leader is sponsored by the Marietta Police Athletic League (PAL). Marietta PAL’s mission is to prevent juvenile crime and violence by providing civic, athletic, recreational and educational opportunities which create trust and build understanding between officers and youth.
The PAL After School Program Leader will provide a safe haven for youth in K – 12th grades at the Hugh L. Grogan Jr Community Center. The goal of the PAL After School Program is to empower youth with an increased knowledge of health and fitness, sports and recreation, while also helping them improve in academics, leadership development, teamwork and self-esteem.
The PAL After School Program Leader will work closely with the PAL After School Program Site Supervisor to plan and implement all the After School programs and activities to include health and fitness, sports and recreation, academic sessions, field trips, daily meals, program events and parent participation. The PAL After School Program Leader will be flexible and adaptable to changing situations and children’s needs, will teach and model positive behavior, values and follow all PAL after school policies and procedures. The PAL After School Program Leader will have a genuine interest in the development of youth and assist the After School Program Coordinator and all staff, facilitators and volunteers in ensuring a positive environment that promotes and enhances the development of youth by instilling a sense of belonging, competence and confidence.

- Three shifts available Monday through Friday, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
- Two shifts available Monday through Friday, from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Essential Job Functions:
- Plans, leads, and facilitates engaging recreation, sports, academic and enrichment activities for youth (grades K -12)
- Ensures after school members are adequately supervised at all times during the program
- Maintains order, discipline, safety, and health standards at all times
- Creates age appropriate after school experiences that are consistent with PAL’s goals and mission
- Acts as an onsite representative of PAL to the participants, parents, volunteers, visitors and other staff. Professional demeanor is expected when dealing with all involved in the program
- Assists Site Supervisor in ensuring safety, knowing location of youth at all times
- Assists in ensuring the proper safety parameters are in place throughout after school activities
- Participates and supervises youth on field trips
- Assists After School Site Supervisor in overseeing after school food programs to include documentation and tracking, and ensure all temperature and food handling requirements are consistently met
- Works under the supervision of the After School Program Site Supervisor and PAL supervision and leadership assisting in daily operations, setting up and preparing program areas and ensuring activities run smoothly
- Participates as part of a team to run a top-of-the-line Youth Center with quality programs, by helping where needed and/or instructed
- Nurturing and supporting youth by developing a rapport with students and their parents, creating a welcoming environment, while providing a positive example
- Ensures all health, sanitary, safety precautions including Covid-19 procedures are consistently adhered to at all times before, during and after program operations
Qualifications:
- Must be PRE-APPROVED by the Marietta Police Department
- Must be able to pass a thorough criminal background check and drug screen
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Ability to multi-task, work in a non-judgmental, culturally diverse environment
- Ability to maintain discipline of a group including crowd control and to control recreation activities.
- Have an enthusiastic, dynamic personality that inspires and motivates children
- Have a love and understanding of and ability to relate to children
- Ability to accept responsibility and exercise judgment
- Ensure youth have FUN while growing as enlightened, caring and confident individuals
- Ability to interact with the public in an effective and courteous manner
- Knowledge of care and use of equipment and supplies
- Must be in good physical condition, able to perform all activities walking, running, standing & sitting on and off the floor
