This is a journey level position within the Meter Services division that reports to
the Meters and Services Manager.  This position is responsible for connecting and disconnecting electric and water utility services as requested by the customer.

 
  • Connects, disconnects or transfers utility service per customer's request and records reading from meter.
  • Acts as a floater between various jobs within the department as needed.
  • Uses various tools to pry open meter covers as needed.  Water meters require various cut off keys and use of a water pump to drain out meter boxes as needed. Electric meters require use of specialty equipment including handheld meter reading computer, tamper proof locks, and amp test meter.
  • Employee regularly uses tools and equipment such as wire cutters, channel lock pliers, ladders, high voltage safety gloves, handheld radio, cell phone, specialty clothing for hazardous weather.
  • Organizes daily service orders by area to efficiently complete assigned route. Arranges route data from hand-held computer, written orders and verbal requests from supervisor.
  • Completes necessary forms on possible tampered meters.
  • Provides back up re-reads for both Meters division and Customer Service division as directed.
  
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or GED
  • A minimum of 2 years progressively responsible experience in a utility meter services operation.
  • Good verbal communications skills including ability to interact with customers in an effective and courteous manner. Must be able to complete standard written forms and basic reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Knowledge of electric and water meters and ability to follow safety procedures when disconnecting meters.
  • Ability to learn street locations, local maps, and the Marietta BLW service area.
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to walk for extended periods of time including up and down hills. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and work around dogs and other pets, insects, and other related conditions. Ability to pry open and move water meter lids (using tools and other equipment).  Full description of the physical requirements available upon request.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge and skill using basic mathematics and working with numeric data entry.
